Tekapo from the Italian house Olfattology, released in 2021, is a caramel gourmand with a bitter orange and saffron edge. Gourmand is the word everyone uses for it, and about half also find it spicy, woody, floral, ambery or citrusy.
Bigarade, the bitter orange, gives the opening a sharp, slightly marmalade-like brightness, and blackcurrant adds a tart, green fruitiness. Caramel arrives quickly, warm and sweet, but it is kept in check by saffron, which brings a dry, leathery, faintly medicinal spice, and by French marigold and marigold, which add a bitter, green, herbal sharpness. Jasmine softens the middle with a warm floral sweetness. Sandalwood gives the base a creamy woodiness, and amber a soft, lasting warmth.
Tekapo is worn by anyone. Its warm, sweet character suits autumn and winter and evenings, and it should appeal to someone who likes caramel scents but wants bitterness and spice to keep them interesting.
