Love Kills by Masque Milano, composed by Caroline Dumur and released in 2019, is a rose soliflore in the strict sense: almost everything in it serves the flower. Floral is the word everyone uses; more than half also find it woody and a sizeable group musky.
Turkish rose and Turkish rose oil form the heart, a full, slightly honeyed, slightly spicy rose. African geranium and geranium frame it with a greener, more peppery rosiness, so the flower reads fresh-cut rather than jammy. The base is restrained: cedar and cedar essence add a dry, pencil-like woodiness, patchouli a faint earthiness, and ambrette and Ambrarome a soft, slightly ambery musk that gives the rose warmth and a skin-like finish without sweetness.
It is a shared fragrance, worn by anyone. The clarity of the composition suggests daytime wear and transitional seasons, and it suits people who want a rose that smells like the actual flower, neither candied nor smothered in oud.
