Red Tobacco by Mancera is a dense, woody scent with a sweet spice running through it, released in 2017 and composed by Pierre Montale. Most people call it woody first, more than half add spicy and gourmand, and a smaller group describe it as ambery.
Despite the name, it opens on fruit and spice: green apple and white pear against cinnamon, nutmeg and saffron, with oud and incense already smouldering underneath. The heart is a short passage of jasmine and patchouli. The base is the main event, a thick layer of tobacco and Madagascar vanilla over sandalwood, guaiac wood and amber, with white musk and Haitian vetiver keeping it from turning syrupy.
This one is worn by anyone and is known for its staying power: most wearers call it eternal, and the sillage is reported as enormous by about half, strong by most of the rest. It is voted firmly for winter and autumn and for night. One or two sprays are enough for a cold evening out, and it is probably too much for a warm office.
