Holiday by Louis Cardin, released in 2017, is a warm, spicy woody masculine scent. Woodiness is what everyone picks up, most also describe it as spicy, and around four in ten find it amber-like and citrusy; a minority notice resin and an aromatic edge.

Unusually, the warm materials come first: sandalwood, labdanum and patchouli open it alongside nutmeg and ginger, so the start is creamy, resinous and spiced rather than fresh. The heart lightens things, with mint and lemon bringing a cool, clean lift against jasmine and vetiver, the latter adding a dry, earthy grassiness. The base brings back the warmth with cedar, amber and incense, a smoky, resinous finish, while grapefruit and pink pepper keep a thread of brightness running to the end.

It reads as a cold-weather scent with a surprisingly fresh middle, suited to someone who likes spice and incense but does not want to feel wrapped in a blanket all day.
