Wormwood, the bitter herb behind absinthe, opens with a sharp, green, aniseed-tinged bitterness, angelica adds a musky, celery-like greenness, and blackcurrant a tart, fruity brightness. The heart is a spice cabinet: ginger for fizzy heat, nutmeg and cloves for dry, slightly medicinal warmth, and star anise for a liquorice sweetness, all over an earthy patchouli. The base moves into the forest, with pine needles and balsam fir giving a resinous, green freshness and incense a soft, smoky haze.
Most wearers report moderate longevity and moderate sillage, so it is present without being loud. It is voted mainly for daytime, in spring and autumn, which suits a bracing, herbal spice worn out of doors.
