Rose Oud by Korloff Paris, released in 2019 and worn by anyone, is more oud than rose by most accounts: everyone describes it as woody, while spicy, floral, ambery, leathery and citrus impressions each come from about a quarter of wearers.
Citrus notes and red berries give a brief bright, fruity start, with myrtle adding a green, slightly medicinal herbal touch. Rose and saffron form the familiar pairing in the middle, the rose deep and the saffron dry and leathery. The base is where it spends most of its time: oud for dark, resinous wood, guaiac wood for a smoky, slightly tar-like quality, cashmere wood for softness, styrax for a sweet balsamic resin, and castoreum for a warm, animalic leather.
Longevity and sillage have not yet been reported. Oud, smoke and animalic leather belong to cold weather and the evening, and this suits someone who wants rose as a seasoning rather than the main course.
