Seta, Italian for silk, is a 2020 fragrance by Luca Gritti for his house Gritti, and the name is a fair guide: a floral that everyone describes as such, most also finding it woody, with a minority picking up sweetness and amber.

The flowers lead and they are mostly soft ones. Iris gives a cool, powdery smoothness, violet a faint candied edge, rose and jasmine add body, and orange blossom a honeyed, slightly green freshness. Ornithogalum, the star-of-Bethlehem flower, is a rarer touch that keeps the bouquet from feeling conventional. Raspberry brings a tart fruitiness up top. The wood underneath is drier than expected: cedar and cypress give a pencil-shaving crispness, agarwood adds a darker, smoky undertone, and amber warms the finish.

It is worn by anyone. The powdery-woody balance suits spring and autumn and daytime wear, and a person who likes elegant, understated florals rather than sweet or loud ones.
