Arancia Ambrata is a spiced orange from Gritti, composed by Luca Gritti and released in 2017, worn by anyone. Everyone who describes it calls it citrus; two thirds add spicy, woody and floral, and a minority find gourmand and amber.
Blood orange leads the opening, sweeter and deeper than ordinary orange, with a slightly raspberry-like tang, supported by Calabrian bergamot. Spices warm it through the middle, where jasmine and rose add a soft floral layer that keeps the composition from being purely fruit and heat. The base is where the amber of the name comes in: amber itself, warm and resinous; vanilla, sweet and smooth; sandalwood, creamy; and vetiver, adding an earthy, slightly smoky dryness.
The arc from bright orange to warm amber makes it more of a year-round scent than a summer cologne. It suits daytime in mild weather and evenings in autumn, and will appeal to those who like citrus with a sweet, spicy finish.
