Experimentum Crucis from Etat Libre d'Orange, released in 2019 and composed by Quentin Bisch, is a honeyed, fruity floral with a cumin twist. People describe it as gourmand, woody and floral in equal measure, with spicy and musky sides for about half.

It opens with litchi and apple against cumin, so the sweet fruit comes with a warm, slightly sweaty, skin-like spice that is the scent's defining move. The heart is rose and jasmine thickened with honey, lush and a little animalic. The base is patchouli for earth, akigalawood for a peppery, woody dryness, and musk to keep it close and warm.

About half of wearers report long-lasting performance and a third call it moderate, while sillage is split between moderate and strong. It is voted for autumn and winter and leans towards night. It is worn by anyone, and suits evenings and someone who likes sweetness with a provocative, bodily edge.
