Brilliant Wish, a 2010 feminine fragrance from the Swiss house Chopard composed by Louise Turner and Michel Girard, is hard to pin to one family. Everyone who describes it uses the same cluster of words together: spicy, sweet, musky, floral, amber and leather.
Jasmine, including star jasmine, is the floral centre, giving a bright, slightly heady white-flower sweetness. Pink pepper adds a rosy, lively spice, and fruity notes bring a juicy, sweet softness that accounts for the gourmand side. Violet leaf cuts through with a crisp, green, almost cucumber-like freshness, so the sweetness never becomes heavy. Woody notes and amber supply a warm, resinous depth beneath the flowers, and musk gives it a soft, slightly leathery smoothness in the finish.
It is a feminine scent that manages to be sweet and spicy at the same time without tipping into dessert, a good fit for someone who wants a floral with warmth and a touch of edge rather than a fresh, simple one.
