Sensual Oud from the French house Art de Parfum, released in 2016, is a spicy rose-oud with a suede finish. People describe it as spicy, woody and floral in equal measure, and about half also find it leathery.
Cloves and saffron set a warm, dry, slightly medicinal spice at the start, and dates add a dark, sticky, fruity sweetness that gives the opening richness. Rose is the heart, full and slightly jammy, with geranium adding a green, minty, rosy sharpness beside it. Agarwood brings a dark, smoky woodiness, and cypriol deepens it with an earthy, leathery, slightly smoky tone. Patchouli adds an earthy base, and suede gives the drydown a soft, warm, velvety texture that is gentler than true leather.
Sensual Oud is worn by anyone. Its warm, spiced character suits autumn and winter and evening wear, and it should appeal to someone who enjoys the rose-oud tradition and wants a version with dates and suede for softness.
