Colonia Intensa, released by Acqua di Parma in 2007 and composed by Alberto Morillas and François Demachy, is a cologne with a darker, spiced foundation. Spicy, woody and citrusy are the words everyone uses; about half also find it floral, resinous and leathery.
The opening is pure Italian citrus, Sicilian lemon and Calabrian bergamot, sharpened by ginger, a zesty start with a warm prickle behind it. The heart is herbal and green: artemisia for a bitter, wormwood-like edge, myrtle for an aromatic freshness, and neroli for a clean orange-blossom brightness. The base is where the intensity sits, leather and cedar with benzoin adding a soft, resinous warmth.
Most wearers find the longevity moderate, with a fifth calling it long lasting, and the sillage is moderate to intimate. Summer and spring share the top seasonal votes and it is worn mostly by day, though a third keep it for the evening. It suits smart warm-weather wear, for anyone who wants a citrus cologne with more depth than the usual.
