Unheimlich

Unheimlich, composed by Mark Buxton for the Austrian house WienerBlut in 2017, is a dark, animalic spicy leather with jasmine and cocoa. Everyone who describes it calls it spicy, most also find it floral and leathery, about half notice amber, and a minority mention wood and aromatic notes.

Pimento, red pepper, cardamom and cumin give the opening a warm, clove-like, slightly fiery and skin-like spice. Lavender adds a clean herbal note. The heart is floral and sensual: jasmine, including jasmine sambac, brings a sunny, indolic radiance and iris a cool powder. The base is dark and feral: birch tar adds a smoky, tarry leather, castoreum and civet a warm, animalic richness, costus an earthy, waxy depth, cacao pod a bittersweet note, and opoponax and ambergris a sweet, salty glow.
