Venetian Blue Intense

Venetian Blue Intense is a spicy, fruity green scent from the Italian house The Merchant of Venice, released in 2018 and marketed for men. Spicy, gourmand, green and citrus are all words everyone uses for it, and about half also find it ambery or leathery, which describes a bright, fruity opening over a mossy, smoky base.

Bergamot and lemon open it with a sharp, clean citrus, and apple and pineapple add a crisp and then a juicy, tropical sweetness that is where the gourmand impression comes from. Black pepper runs through the top and heart with a dry, sharp heat that stops the fruit from becoming soft. The base is dark and classic: oakmoss and moss give a damp, bitter, forest-floor depth, patchouli an earthy wood, birch a smoky, tarry note that reads as leather, and ambergris and musk a warm, salty, skin-like finish.
