Kamel Oud

Kamel Oud, created by Camille Chemardin, Anne-Sophie Behaghel and Amélie Bourgeois for the French house Sora Dora in 2021, is a woody fragrance by every account, and about four in five wearers also call it spicy. Two in five find it resinous or citrusy, and a minority fresh or ambered.

Bergamot and aldehydes give a sparkling, slightly waxy opening, with raspberry adding a tart fruit note and pink pepper and cardamom a bright spice. Cumin brings a warm, sweaty, animal edge that fits the camel of the name. Laotian oud sits at the centre with Atlas cedar and guaiac wood for a dry, resinous wood core, and cade oil adds a tarry, smoky, almost burnt quality. Juniper and papyrus keep the woods dry and slightly green, rose adds a thread of floral softness, saffron a leathery heat, and labdanum and elemi a resinous warmth in the base.

It is a shared fragrance, worn by anyone, and suits cool weather and evenings and people who like their oud smoky and spiced.
