Ta'if Elixir

Ta'if Elixir by the British house Ormonde Jayne, released in 2019 in elixir concentration, is a floral fragrance by every account, with about half of wearers also calling it spicy. A quarter find it woody or ambered. It is a rich, spiced rose built around the Ta'if rose tradition.

It opens with dates, pink pepper and saffron, a dense, sweet fruit against a light spice and a leathery, faintly metallic warmth. The heart is where the flowers come: rose oil gives a deep, slightly jammy rose, jasmine adds a warm, heady fullness, French orange flower a honeyed brightness and freesia a fresher, peppery floral lift. The base of Cambodian oud, amber and broom is warm and resinous, the oud adding a smoky wood, the amber a soft glow and broom a honeyed, hay-like sweetness.

Ta'if Elixir is a shared fragrance, worn by anyone. Dates, saffron and rose over oud belong to cooler months and evenings, and it should appeal to people who like opulent, spiced roses with staying power.
