Roma

Roma, released in 1988 by the Italian house Laura Biagiotti, is a women's floral that most wearers also find gourmand, with a woody side noticed by a good share and resinous, aromatic and citrus touches by a few. It has the layered, slightly animalic warmth typical of its era.

The opening is surprisingly fresh for such a warm scent: Sicilian bergamot and pink grapefruit bring a bitter citrus sparkle, blackcurrant a tart fruitiness, mint a cool lift, and hyacinth a green floral note. The heart is a classic bouquet of rose, jasmine, lily of the valley and carnation, the last adding a peppery, clove-like edge. The base is long and complex, with vanilla, amber and myrrh for a sweet, resinous warmth, sandalwood and patchouli for depth, and civet and oakmoss for a subtle animalic, mossy undertone.

About half of wearers report moderate longevity and more than a third find it long lasting; sillage is moderate for most. It is voted mainly for autumn, with summer second, and worn more by day, suiting mild weather and daytime occasions.
